Dahlias are a gorgeous, easy to grow flower that many people love to grow but get confused when it comes time to dig. I’ve found that while most people know their tubers will die if left in the ground to overwinter, they don’t know how to keep them alive once they’ve dug them up. Between temperature fluctuations, mold and rot a lot of things can still kill your valuable tubers before spring ever comes.
This hands-on class will not only give you the right information you need to be successful it will also give you the chance to practice right here on our farm. With me there to guide you and answer any questions that come up you’re sure to walk away feeling more confident and capable when the time comes to dig up your Dahlias. This class is perfect for those who have dahlias ready to dig at home, or someone who simply wants to take home a handful of tubers to practice storing with before they take the leap and invest in more dahlias next year.
Each person will get a shovel and a plant to dig from one of our rows.
Once your tubers are dug you’ll rinse them off and find a spot to begin dividing.
Next, you’ll grab a pair of snips and I’ll teach you how to look for eyes and where to divide your tuber clump.
Lastly, I’ll provide you with a container and vermiculite to store your freshly divided tubers in and we’ll go over how to pick the best spot in your home to store your tubers.
You will leave our farm with multiple tubers, a storage container filled with vermiculite and all the information we go over printed out for you to reference while growing and digging your tubers at home!

Quick note - Dahlia varieties will be assigned at random and some may or may not be labeled. Dress accordingly for the weather and getting dirty. This class is best suited for kids who can follow along, stay close to their adult and safely be around equipment and sharp snips. You are welcome to bring 1 additional person with you to watch but a ticket must be purchased for digging and taking home any material.
Ticket prices will be refunded in the event that our class is cancelled due to weather or low attendance. Tickets are not refundable for other circumstances but are fully transferable!
