About us

Hi, I’m Brooke—it's so nice to meet you!

I started Tailwater Flower Farm in 2019, before kids and before life got really busy - like full-time jobs and two little ones busy! We had just bought our first home, started new jobs and moved to an area where we didnt know many people. During that season, we could feel something was missing. We craved more than just quick check-ins, we wanted real connection.

We wanted community.

We knew that kind of connection doesn’t just happen by chance and it doesn’t happen overnight. It takes intention. It takes showing up and being the kind of person that reaches out and makes time for others. That became one of our reasons for starting Tailwater Flower Farm.

You might be wondering —why flower farming?

In 2017 my cousin and I visited Omena Cut Flowers in Traverse City, Michigan just 2 days before my wedding. We cut buckets of flowers, stored them in a cooler and arranged them on the morning of my wedding.

This is the moment I knew I wanted to someday start a flower farm.

I’ve always felt most at home outdoors and care deeply about conserving and protecting our natural world. When my husband Matthias and I got married in 2017, we knew we didn’t want a traditional wedding - we wanted our wedding to reflect our own values: low waste, locally sourced, and thoughtfulness.

As I began to look into flower options for our wedding I learned that 80-90% of fresh flowers are shipped from overseas.

We knew this wouldn’t work for us.

So we started searching and found that there were incredible local Michigan flower farmers to source our flowers from! In the end, we sourced about 80% of our wedding flowers locally and I am still so proud of that.

By 2019, starting our flower farm finally felt like the natural next step—bringing together everything we were craving and valued: nature, beauty, sustainability, connection, and community.

There’s something about flowers that help people feel a sense of calmness and joy like nothing else can.

Our hope has always been that our farm could become that starting point for others — the beginning of deeper connection, meaningful experiences, and a life lived with intention.

Welcome to the farm, we’re so glad you’re here!

With love,
Brooke & Matthias
